Mpeketoni to Garrisa University Massacre: Is Njenga Miiri jinxed or just incompetent?

Embattled Garissa County Commissioner Njenga Miiri who was interdicted on Tuesday by Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery is either unfortunate or is hounded by misfortunes of attracting terrorist attacks wherever he is deployed.

Miiri had been in Lamu in the same capacity during which tenure suspected terrorists carried out various attacks in Mpeketoni and its environs massacring over 60 people between June 15th 2014 and June 17th 2015.

And just like in Garissa on April 2 2015 when terrorists attacked Garissa University College and massacred 148 people including 142 students, Miiri and those endowed with administrative and security responsibilities slept on the job in Lamu.

The then Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo on June 17th 2014 appointed a new District Administration Police commander John Njenga Miiri following the suspension of top security officials in Lamu.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku announced the sacking of the then Lamu County Commissioner Stephen Ikua and police commander Leonard Omollo.

Miiri had been an administrative official in Lamu before his re appointment.

Shortly thereafter in February 2015, Miiri was transferred to Garissa in the same capacity to replace Rashid Khator who had been in charge for one and half years during which time security in Garissa had improved.

Is Miiri the Al Shabaab target or is it just a coincidence that he is a beneficiary as he was during the Mpeketoni attack in June 2014 and a victim as he has been in the Garissa University College attack?
