Industrialisation Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed has said that there is no sugar deal to import UG produce to Kenya.  He added that Kenya has been importing sugar based on Comesa regulation.Kenya had been importing on average 250 tons of sugar from all comesa members but most of it comes from other countries  other than UG. He noted that Uganda enjoys full Comesa benefits and the government will take into consideration local production and market production.

He added that all efforts are being made to streamline the sugar industry using the  Sugar development levy. He said that the 1billion Mumias sugar bailout was to ensure our production level is not lost and  supporting power generation.Kenya has the option of working out with Comesa to dialogue over safeguards."we are losing some very important facts in this debate where people are running around with huge allegations."He appeared to contradict himself when he said that "Our preferance is EAC. But once we exhaust that, we can always look beyond in the Comesa market."
