Nyayo stadium roundabout interchange plans finalized

The Kenya National Highways Authority has finalized plans to expand strategic roads in Nairobi to ease traffic flow.The construction project which  will commence in December this year is aimed at decongesting Nairobi and save commuters incessant grid locks.The project will be financed by the World Bank through the national urban transport improvement Project (NUTRIP).

  In a press statement to news rooms KeNHA General Manager Special Projects Eng. David Muchiliwa said that the road project is divided into three sections and the first section stretches from JKIA to Likoni Road Junction at the Southern By-pass Interchange.He said that the second section starts from Likoni Road Junction to James Gichuru Road Junction on Waiyaki way near ABC place where the last one starts and continues to Rironi.           “The road sections are at different stages of project planning which will be discussed in detail in the following section.” said Muchilwa

 He explained that preparations are in top gear and some sections have been advertised and procurement process has started. “The project includes the construction of an artistic interchange at the Nyayo Stadium roundabout,” he said adding that the designs have been approved and are only awaiting ratification from the World Bank before they go to tender.

Muchilwa said that the interchange will allow for free movement of vehicles arriving from Mombasa Road, Town and the Langata road and the project objective is to decongest JKIA through Westlands and all the way to Rironi.
