Interviews for Chief Justice position start today

The search for a candidate to substantively replace Dr Willy Mutunga as Chief Justice start this monring with Court of Appeal Judge Alnashir Visram facing the panel.

Justice Visram is among six candidates who have been shortlisted for interviews to run till Monday next week.

Others set for the interviews include high court Judge Msagha Mbogholi, court of appeal judges Roselyn Nambuye and David Maraga, Supreme Court Judge Smokin Wanjala and Senior Counsel Nzamba Kitonga.

The interviews for the CJ will be followed by those of the Deputy Chief Justice and for the position of a Supreme Court Judge.

Should the interviews take off, the names for the three positions are expected to be made public at the end of September.

However, the interviews might not take off as expected until the High Court delivers a ruling on a petition challenging the process used by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in short listing candidates for the Chief justice, Deputy Chief Justice and Judge of Supreme Court positions.
